An earlier version was debianized by Christoph Martin <christoph.martin@uni-mainz.de>
on Mon, 1 Mar 1999 21:36:23 +0100.  Downloaded from a mirror of Bill Fenner's last
release while at AT&T: ftp://ftp.research.att.com/pub/fenner/mrouted/, specifically
the code came from ftp://ftp.tu-darmstadt.de/pub/networking/mbone/mrouted/Source/
that version was later dropped[1] by Debian.

This version is from the same code base, but with quite a few patches applied from
other sources, most notably OpenBSD. It is currently is available from the following
locations, primarily GitHub:

Previously mrouted was non-free software in Debian, mostly due to restrictions on
redistribution. However, in March 2003 the OpenBSD project managed to convince[2]
Stanford to change the license to the 3-clause BSD license, listed below.
