1.2. Organization of this manual

This remainder of manual is separated into five sections:

• Installation. How to download, compile, and install mpd.
• Running mpd. How to invoke mpd from the UNIX command line, and how to use mpd's own command line interface.
• Configuration. How to configure the various link-type independent components of mpd.
• Device types. The devices types supported by mpd and how to configure each device type.
• References. References to the standards to which mpd was written.
